Hi, I’m Shannon Maeve, the jeweler/owner of Maevean! We’re a woman-owned and operated local small business of hand-smithed jewelry. Fabricated from recycled metal, we maintain an eco-concious studio offering a variety of collections with Gothic and Victorian motifs in high-quality, fine metal jewelry. Each piece is hand made by my hands. No two pieces will be exactly alike, but every piece is created with care. I hope you’ll love wearing my work as much as I love making it!

The jewelry I design is meant to reflect the rich history of the city of Salem and other New England towns. Why do I mention Salem, MA specifically? The name recognition helps, but beyond that, my partner since age 16 was born and raised here. As it’s one of the nation’s few walkable cities, we spent the early years of our relationship exploring the area. We get out a bit farther now (the joys of owning a vehicle!) but nowhere else could replace the memories we’ve made here. We live just outside the city now but you can find us downtown almost every week. The architecture, museums, and colorful culture of the area are an endless source of inspiration.

Company Ethics

At Maevean, we are dedicated to reducing our footprint at every possible turn. We source only recycled metals and collect our scraps, clean them, melt them, and roll them into our own sheet and wire right in our very own studio! A lengthy process, but we believe it’s worth minimizing refinery chemical use. We do not use rhodium plating, as the process is very toxic, but we include a polishing cloth with our silver jewelry so you can keep tarnish away.

The majority of gemstones we use are sourced from local wholesalers, some only minutes from our studio. We get information on our stones’ origins, but even with our methods of sourcing, we refuse to purchase any company’s diamonds. Diamond suppliers worldwide have failed to guarantee truly ethically sourced diamonds and we refuse to involve ourselves in that industry. If you love the look, we’re happy to offer moissanite! Moissanite was first discovered at the Meteor Crater located near Canyon Diablo, Arizona in 1893. Their are few origin stories cooler than a stone from space. Most moissanite today is lab-made which makes it an incredibly sturdy choice. Moissanite is even brighter than diamond with a similar hardness and far fewer cleave points. It checks all the boxes for a beautiful and ethical replacement, and we’re proud to offer it to our clients!
